There will be a live stream of Verona’s Celebration of Life Service starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2020 with Allen Westby, S.A.M. officiating. Box 327, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572 Verona Peterson, 96, of Pelican Rapids, MN died on Saturday, May 9, 2020, with family by her side. She was under the loving care of Riverfront on Main and Hospice of the Red River Valley. Verona Jean was born April 10, 1924 in Stephen, MN, the daughter of Alphonse and Agnes (Torkildson) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Stephen. Verona grew up in Stephen (Happy Corner) and later graduated from Stephen High School. After graduation, she attended Concordia College for a short period prior to her father’s death in 1943, at which time she returned home to be with her family. Two years later, she attended Moorhead State Teachers College and started teaching elementary education in Elbow Lake, MN. On September 4, 1950 she was united in marriage to Clarence W. Peterson in Stephen. It was then that they made their home in Pelican Rapids. Clarence and Verona had four daughters – Jeanne, Alice, Kris, and Kathy. The Petersons welcomed AFS student from Australia, Marion (Rodda) Orton, into their home and family in 1970. Verona cherished her roles as mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (Big Grandma) with all her heart. She gave her family a deep faith, nurturing home, happy life-long memories, and amazing love. Trinity Lutheran Church was a central part of Verona’s life where she was a member since 1950, served as president of the church council, ELCA delegate, and member of WELCA, church circle, and the quilting group. She was also a long-time member, and served as president, of the Women’s Civic Club in Pelican. Verona loved spending time with her family and wonderful friends. Her friends were always welcome, and coffee and fellowship with them gave her pure joy. She also enjoyed baking, knitting, crocheting, and reading. Verona is survived by her four daughters: Jeanne Peterson-Price, Minneapolis, Alice Ann Peterson, Minneapolis (partner Mark Cronin), Kristin Jung (fiancé Dan Dasovick), Kathryn (Eugene) Ouren, Erhard; 6 grandchildren: Lindsay (Gregory) Solomon, Derek Price, Joseph (Andrea) Ouren, Ann Verona (Joseph) Anderson, Christopher (Kristina) Jung, Alison Jung (partner Steven Hay); 7 great-grandchildren: Jada, Dominic, Malia, Roman, Harper, Logan and Henry; brother Luther Johnson; ten beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence; her parents; brothers: Wallace and Carl; sister Mary Ann; and infant sisters and brother.
