Sylvia Thompson

Sylvia Thompson, 93, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 at her home near Pelican Rapids.  Sylvia was born to John and Lillian (Olds) Kugler at the family home in Friberg Township on November 14, 1925. She was the youngest of seven children. She grew up in Friberg Township where she attended school. She was baptized in East Friberg and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, MN. She married Richard Thompson on October 12, 1946, at Ringsaker Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN. They made their home on a farm east of Pelican Rapids, MN.  Sylvia was actively involved on the farm helping with the daily milking operation, raising livestock, driving tractor, running for parts, bringing lunches to everyone during fieldwork and any other job that needed doing. Sylvia belonged to the Eastside Farmers’ Club and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN, where she was an active circle member. Sylvia enjoyed living on the farm, dancing with Richard, feeding and watching the birds on her deck, playing cards, Search A Word Puzzles, reading, playing “Chicken Foot” and especially baking.  On your birthday, you were sure to get an angel food cake with seven-minute frosting baked by Sylvia.  Everyone loved her frosted molasses cookies, caramel rice krispie bars and homemade donuts. Whenever you visited Sylvia, you could not leave without having some of her homemade goodies.  She loved the holidays and decorated for each one, especially Christmas. Sylvia loved any time spent with her family and they were her pride and joy.  She enjoyed the Kugler Reunions and the excitement of the annual deer hunting get-together at her house.  Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; her grandson, Jason Boedigheimer; her siblings; Violet Skogen, Vernon Kugler, Marvin Kugler, Lila Duenow, Robert Kugler and Velda Buchholz. Sylvia is survived by her children: Sheryl (Patrick) Boedigheimer, Anoka, MN, Jon (Vickie) Thompson, Pelican Rapids, MN; her grandchildren, Tracy (Michael) Kinn, Jeffrey (Kristine) Boedigheimer, Justin Thompson, Ryan (Megan) Thompson, Kayla (Shane) Bowe, her granddaughter-in-law, Nicolette Boedigheimer; her great-grandchildren, Nathan, Madeline and Taylor Kinn, Riley, Maggie and Blake Boedigheimer, Anna and Maren Boedigheimer, Jonathan Thompson, Finnegan and Freya Bowe; sister-in-law, Vivian Kugler and many nieces and nephews, extended family and her friends.   Visitation: Saturday, May 11, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN.  Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
