Shirley Lund

Shirley (Iszler) Lund, age 85, of Moorhead, MN died Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Minnesota Veterans Home, Fergus Falls, MN. Shirley (Iszler) Lund was born at home on the family farm north of Venturia, ND to Andreas Iszler and Eva (Gunsch) Iszler on July 16, 1935, the youngest of 6 siblings. Shirley attended country school until 6th grade and continued in Ashley, ND through eighth grade. After her parents were unable to continue farming, she moved to Moorhead, MN with a sister at the age of 14 to earn her own way. She completed her GED years later. She exhibited a strong work ethic and within a couple years became the store manager of Joe Arrell’s Gas Station in Moorhead. Shirley married Arlo Lund of Fargo, ND on November 24, 1956 and started a family in Fargo. Shirley worked as Office Manager at Grants Department Store. In 1966 the family moved to Kelso, WA. Shirley and Arlo moved to Pelican Rapids in 1972 when they purchased the Pelican Welding Shop, owning it until 1980. While continuing to raise two sons, maintain a household and perform bookkeeping duties for the business she also worked outside the home. Shirley enjoyed and maintained many friendships with co-workers at West Central Turkeys, Pelican Valley Health Care, Banner Engineering and started a home cleaning/baking service with her good friend Donna-Mae Sather. Throughout their marriage Shirley and Arlo were well known for dancing, socializing and entertaining. There was always an open invitation for friends and family to visit with Shirley cooking and Arlo the source of many entertaining conversations. Shirley was known as Mom (Ma) to many friends of her sons from their youth until her passing. She and Arlo cherished their grandchildren and great-grandson. They made holidays special occasions with their focused attention and very few rules. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, infant son Jerry, many other relatives and friends and her husband Arlo. She will be greatly missed by her two sons: John (Linda) Lund, Fargo, ND and James Lund (Lois Pearson), Pelican Rapids, MN; Three Grandchildren: Nick Lund, Annie Lund and Peter Lund & great-grandson Ayden Pfeifer. Surrogate granddaughters: Karissa (Chad) Alfson and Kayla (Matt) Kruize, great-grandchildren: Koby Pearson, Jasmin Pearson, Deshaun Jean-Baptiste, and Brantley Kruize. Celebration of Life for Arlo and Shirley Lund: Visitation will be one hour prior with service at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 13, 2021, at VFW Post 5252, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
