Scott "Butch" Rice, a resident of Perham, left this world at the age of 50 on April 6, 2024, working outdoors with a friend near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Born on August 5, 1973, to Bruce and Linda (Berg) Rice in Pelican Rapids, Scott's journey was one marked by love, laughter, and a deep love for tinkering with anything mechanical.
Scott attended and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1991 where he played football and golf. He worked as a bartender for Pelican Supper Club, Perry’s near Vergas, and the Eagles Club in Detroit Lakes. Then Butch worked as a mechanic for Vergas One Stop in Vergas until 2021. Presently Scott and Lisa helped manage D.W. Jones properties in Perham and did maintenance for them at Perham, Barnesville, Pelican Rapids and Fergus Falls.
His enthusiasm for motorcycles, Grain Belt collectibles, Hot Wheels, coloring, refinishing furniture, and thrifting was infectious, leaving a mark on all who knew him.
Butch leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is survived by his love of his life, Lisa Moe, his father Lynn Strubbe, sisters: Lisa Reyes and Carie Strubbe, brother Rick Strubbe, as well as his children: Heather (Drew) Carlson, Winona Richardson, Kortni (Kyler) Groft, Nichole (Tony) Colby, Blayse (Ashley) Lee, Morgan Schepper, Desiree Moltzan; eleven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Linda Strubbe, grandparents, and brother Alan.
A celebration of Scott's life and legacy will be held in his honor on April 15, 2024, with visitation from 4:30-6:30 pm and a celebration of life service at 6:30 pm at Larson Funeral and Cremation Service in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. In these times of mourning, those who knew Scott are encouraged to wear Harley-Davidson and Grain Belt attire and remember the joy he brought into their lives and the memories that will forever keep him alive in their hearts. A life well-lived, a man well-loved, Scott will be dearly missed by all.
