Roger Frank Carpenter, age 87, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Pelican Valley Senior Living of congestive heart failure after a short illness. Roger was born September 7, 1929 in Jessie, North Dakota, to Frank and Pearl (Thorn) Carpenter. In 1947 he graduated from Sutton High School in Sutton, ND. Following his graduation he worked as an assistant manager at a grain elevator in Sutton. Throughout his career he was manager of grain elevators in Marmarth, West Fargo, Mapleton, Prosper, North Dakota, and then managed in Moorhead, Minnesota. He was also a past president of ND Grain Dealers Association. Roger finished his career as the general manager of the Hunter Grain Company (with elevators in Hunter, Blanchard, and Gardner, North Dakota). On June 17, 1949 Roger married Delores Starr at Mabel Lutheran Church in Sutton, North Dakota. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and fishing. Roger is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Delores (Starr) Carpenter, Pelican Rapids; daughter, Candy (Jon) Gill, Toronto, Ontario; sons: Kevin (Julie) Carpenter, St. Cloud, MN, and Kerry Carpenter, Bismarck, ND; 11 grandchildren: Caida Gill, Clinton Carpenter, Gareth (Heather) Gill, Anysia Carpenter, Kirsten Beth Nova Starr, Ian (Courtney) Carpenter, Myrna (Eric) Carr, Ria (Ryan) Bawek, Raissa Carpenter, George (Allison Duflo) Carpenter and Seth Carpenter; 12 great-grandchildren; and beloved dog, Bandit. He is preceded in death by son Carter, in 2006, and by parents, Pearl and Frank Carpenter. Memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church.
