Robert Lee Uhrig

Robert Uhrig, age 92, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Pelican Valley Senior Living, Pelican Rapids, MN.

Robert Lee was born on July 7, 1930, in Weiser, Idaho to Albert F. and Ethel M. (Seay) Uhrig. He was raised on a cattle ranch, 45 miles from Weiser. Educated in a one room rural school, had to board out to go to high school and to the University of Idaho (Moscow).  He served on active duty in the Air Force during the Korean War.  After finishing college, he taught 6^th grade in Lewiston, Idaho for 3 years.  He spent the next 10 years overseas teaching for the Department of Defense on airbases in England, Germany, Japan, Turkey, and France, having the opportunity to visit 44 countries.

On July 5, 1966, he married Micheline (Mimi) H. Scheppler who was born in his father’s birthplace in France.  The couple moved to the States where Robert taught 6^th grade in Ontario, OR for 7 years. While living in Ontario their son Ray was born.  The family moved to Eugene, OR where Mimi could attend the University of Oregon. 

Upon Bob’s retirement they moved to France for 12 years.  There they both worked for Schiller International University in Strasbourg for 6 years.  After the passing of Mimi’s father, they returned to the States in 1999.  They settled in Pelican Rapids.

He was a Life Member of the National Education Association, the American Overseas Schools Historical Society, the Order of the Arrow.  He had been active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years; was a member of the American Legion Post 17, Senior Center (Treasurer) and Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife Mimi; son Ray (Kim); 2 granddaughters: Kylie and Jessilyn of Denver, CO; his sisters-in-law: Ruth (Glenn’s wife of Elgin, OR), Judy (Kenneth’s wife of Weiser, ID), nephew Donald Uhrig and niece Lori of Boise, ID.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Glenn, Edward, and Kenneth.

Visitation: Monday, November 14, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 14, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
