Richard "Mac" MacGregor

Richard MacGregor, 82, a resident of Pelican Rapids, MN passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022, at the Pelican Valley Senior Living with his family by his side.

Richard Bruce was born February 5, 1940, in Moorhead, MN the son of William and Winnifred (Froelich) MacGregor. He attended Clearview country school till 8^th grade and then went to Moorhead High School. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1958. He attended 2 years at Moorhead State Teachers College and then transferred to University of Minnesota. He returned to Moorhead State and earned his Master’s degree in Physics. Mac also worked for Moorhead Golf Couse for 6 years during summers.

He was united in marriage with Diane Krajsa on June 7, 1964. In 1963 he began teaching math and science at Pelican Rapids High School and retired from teaching there in 1997. 

Richard also worked as a mechanic for Charlie Zimmerman from 1970 - 1971 and worked for Ron Olson at the ORD corporation. During the summers, Mac worked for Otter Tail County Land & Shoreline Management from 1973 to 1990. He worked for the local REA both at the beginning of his time in Pelican Rapids and again after retiring from teaching.

He was a former member of the Pelican Rapids Jaycees, former president of the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church Council, on Pelican Valley Hospital Board for 10 years, Pass-It-On Ministries, and Pelican 4-H leader. He was also the Civil Defense Instructor during the 1960’s and drove school bus as a substitute. He and Diane were also foster parents for many years and were named Otter Tail County foster parents of the year in 1985. Mac enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cards, fixing things, camping, and time with his family. He was honest to a fault and had a dry sense of humor even to the end. He was extremely intelligent and could have taught college but chose Pelican Rapids as his home and to raise his family.

Mac is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diane of Pelican Rapids; son Scott (Kris) MacGregor of Crookston with their children: Alex, Kate, and Andrew; daughter Amy (Dion) Schleske of Pelican Rapids with their children: Bianca, Caas, Ella, and Jake; Sandra’s children (grandchildren) M. Casella and Peter Casella; sister Pat (Gene) Thompson; sisters-in-law Shirley, Mary, and Dell MacGregor, Pat Krajsa, Laurie (Dennis) Smerud, Vicky (Bob) Frank, and Chris Krajsa;  brother-in-law Ken (Kay) Krajsa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Sandra Casella; 4 brothers: Bill, Bob, Don, and Neil; sister-in-law Esther MacGregor; brothers-in-law: Ernie Jr., Donald, and David Krajsa.

Visitation will be Friday, March 11, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. prayer service at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Alex Ohman and Lay Pastor Al Grothe officiating.
