Piedad Lopez nacio en Febrero 24, 1923 en Mexico en el estado de Guanajuato en un pueblo llamado Yuriria. Sus papás eran Pablo López y Ramona Pantoja. Ella no tuvo la oportunidad de ir a la escuela porque de muy pequeña su papa murió y ella tuvo que trabajar y cuidar de sus hermanos. Siempre fue muy activa y creció trabajando en el cerro y campos de maíz. Piedad tuvo 10 hijos, 3 de ellos murieron muy pequeños. Piedad y su Esposo, Felimon Díaz, criaron a su familia en México en un pequeño rancho llamado La Presa. Cuando su esposo murió uno de sus hijos la trajo a los Estados Unidos (Pelican Rapids) en el año 2001. A ella le gustaba mucho salir a caminar y ir al gymnasio con una de sus hijas con la que después vivió. Le gustaba mucho salir a caminar a pesar de que padecía de dolor en un radilla. Ella tenía una memoria excelente pero Ella era tan ágil para caminar que en muchas ocasiones llego a perder muchos bordones por no recorder donde los había dejado. Ella fue miembro de la iglesia Católica. Las pocas veces que falto a las actividades de la iglesia fue porque estaba muy enferma. Todos en la comunidad hispana la conosían. Todos los sacerdotes de la comunidad la estimaban mucho. El sacerdote Jeff Ethan la bautizo como la abuelita de la iglesia católica. Tuvo 39 nietos, 83 bisnietos y 9 tataranietos. A la edad de 95 años callo en cama y después de 12 días Piedad López falleció a las 8:55 am en Junio 19, 2018. Piedad Lopez was born on February 24, 1923. In the state of Guanajuato in a town called Yuriria.  Her parents were Pablo Lopez and Ramona Pantoja.  She did not have the opportunity to go to school because as a child her father passed away and she had to work and take care of her siblings.  She was always very active and grew up working on the cornfields.  Piedad had 10 children, 3 of whom died when they were infants.  Piedad and her husband, Felimon Diaz, raised their family in Mexico in the small town called La Presa.  Piedad Lopez was brought to the US (Pelican Rapids) in 2001 by one of her sons.  She liked to go out for walks and go to the gym with one of her daughters with whom she later lived.  She liked to go for walks even though she suffered from pain in one of her knees.  She had an amazing memory but she was so agile when walking that on many occasions she lost many canes because she did not remember where she had left them.  She was a member of the Catholic Church.  She would only missed church activities when she was really sick.  Everyone in the Hispanic community knew her.  Piedad was very well known by the Hispanic community and was highly respected by all the catholic priest in the community.  The Pelican Rapid’s priest, Jeff Ethen, named her the grandmother of the Catholic Church.  Piedad had 39 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.  At the age of 95 years she got very ill and 12 days later, Piedad Lopez died peacefully at 8:55 am on June 19, 2018. Visitation: Friday, June 22, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.at St. Leonard Catholic Church, Pelican Rapids, MN.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Mass: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018, at St. Leonard Catholic Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Burial: St. Leonard Catholic Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
