Mark Charles Backman

Mark Backman, age 66, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. Mark Charles was born August 8, 1952 in Fridley, MN, to Charles and Mary Lou (Brown) Backman. He attended school in Fridley, graduating from Fridley High School in 1970. Then he went on to Bemidji State University studying Mass Communications graduating in 1975. During his time at Bemidji State University, he worked as a disc jockey for a local radio station. After graduation, he moved to Bismarck, ND and was employed with Dakota Fence. On September 12, 1981 Mark married Leslie Hauger in Pelican Rapids. They decided to move to Pelican Rapids in the heart of lake country. Mark was employed at Jennie-O Turkey Manufacturing for almost 30 years, retiring as a Production Manager. For a period of time, he was also a disc jockey for 104.1, the River, located in Pelican Rapids. He enjoyed listening to music and he was a trivia whiz. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and camping. Mark is survived by his wife of 37 years, Leslie of Pelican Rapids; daughters: Teresa (Casey) Majerus, Anaconda, MT and Roberta Backman, Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Althea and Eloise Majerus; brothers: Clifford (Nelina) Backman and Ted Backman; sister-in-law, Pat (Carl) Zick, and numerous nieces and nephews. ­­­­He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Betker and brother, Neil Backman. Visitation: Monday, July 1, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
