Lou Ann Sjolie

Lou Ann Sjolie died Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living Center, Detroit Lakes, MN. LouAnn was born to Andrew and Anna (Peterson) Hanson on December 12, 1936 in Perham, MN. She grew up in Star Lake Township and later graduated from Perham High School.  She always talked fondly of her memories growing up on Star Lake.  On Christmas Day in 1955, LouAnn married Howard Sjolie.  At that time they moved to the Fergus Falls area where LouAnn was mostly a stay-at-home mom raising her 5 children.  Later LouAnn was employed as a human services technician at the State Hospital.  Howard and LouAnn moved to Anchorage, AK for about 3 years, where LouAnn worked as a program coordinator at a group home for Hope Cottages.  Then they came home in 1992 and Howard passed away on June 1, 1993.  She stayed in Fergus Falls for several years and worked a few years for Green Thumb/Experience Works in Fergus Falls as a job coordinator.  She later moved to Pelican Rapids, MN where she lived for 10 years.  LouAnn loved any time spent with family, especially picnics and big family get-togethers. She was always there when needed for her children and grandchildren and loved having them come over. LouAnn loved playing cards and earned the nickname "Mrs. Whist". She enjoyed snowmobiling and dancing with Howard. She shared in the excitement of the annual deer hunt and a lot of the family's best times were at the trailer on Star Lake. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard; daughter Shelly; brothers: Duane and Eugene; brothers-in-law: Orgene (Dee) Sjolie, Clarence Peterson, Lyle Busch; sister-in-law Barb Hanson. She is survived by sons: Kirk (Patty), Todd (Jill), Wade (Jodi), Darin (Rachelle); grandchildren: Josh (Shelly) Stenson, Tiffany (Doug) Gorton, Jake Sjolie, Megan (Justin) Stock, Tyler (Brittany) Sjolie, Ben Sjolie, Heather (Aaron) Ebbighausen, Carissa (Chuck Ryan) Sjolie, Andrew Sjolie, Zackery Sjolie, Mandilyn Sjolie, Brock Sjolie, Luke Sjolie; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Gerhard (Brenda) Hanson; sister Marlys Peterson; sisters-in-law Orlyn Hanson, Yvonne Hanson, Joy Busch; brother-in-law Donald (Betty) Sjolie and numerous nieces and nephews.   Visitation: Saturday, March 16, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, MN. Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, MN.
