Lawrence "Larry" Grahn

Larry Grahn, 78, of rural Vergas, MN, died on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Essentia Health with his family by his side. Lawrence John was born February 7, 1942, in Pelican Rapids, MN, the son of Lawrence and Thelma (Togstad) Grahn. Larry’s parents worked at Fair Hills Resort, rural Detroit Lakes, MN where he grew up. He attended school in Pelican Rapids. For several years Larry worked on dairy farms near the Vergas/Pelican Rapids area. Then he worked at Johnny Phillips 66 service station in Detroit Lakes. On November 17, 1962 he was united in marriage with Judy Martinson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. In 1966 Larry and Judy moved to Wolverton, MN where he worked for area grain farmers. In 1968 they moved back to the Vergas area and Larry worked for Detroit Lakes High School. Larry worked for more than 32 years at the high school retiring in 2000. After his retirement he worked as a handyman for several lake residents. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church on Franklin Lake. Larry enjoyed deer hunting, woodworking, snowmobiling, and spending time in the outdoors. Larry had a strong work ethic which he handed down to his children. Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years Judy of Vergas, MN; sons: Terry (Amy) Grahn, Minneapolis and Craig (Joyce) Grahn, Cormorant, MN; daughter Julie (Mike) Kugler, Vergas, MN; 5 grandchildren: Travis (Sarah) Grahn, Tanner (Autumn Klug) Grahn, Logan Nordahl, Casey (Margo) Kugler, Amanda (Josh Reick) Kugler; 6 great-grandchildren: Kaden, Nora, Kelsey, Bryce, Skylin, and Carter; sisters: LaRayne (Ron) Erickson, Elaine Halverson, Mary (Doug) Devorak; brother Bruce (Sue) Grahn; several brothers & sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Gene Halverson. Walk-Through Visitation: Tuesday, December 15, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.
