Kenneth Larson

Kenneth Larson, age 92, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Villa Maria, Fargo, North Dakota. Kenneth LeRoy was born April 12, 1925 on Easter Sunday, in Elliot Township, North Dakota to John and Anna (Nelson) Larson. Kenny graduated from Oakes High School in Oakes, North Dakota.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII on the USS Blackfin Submarine patrolling the South Pacific, Guam, Australia, Hawaii, Philippines, and Sea of Japan. He returned to Oakes and on August 10, l947 Kenny was united in marriage to Alice Joyce Finkle. Kenny worked with his brother, Alvin, as an electrician until 1950.  Kenny worked as a lineman and service representative for Otter Tail Power Co. until he retired in 1987.  After Kenny retired they spent 20 years wintering in Arizona.  Alice Joyce passed away on April 4, 2012.  After Alice Joyce died he encouraged his family to purchase and open the Muddy Moose which he was part-owner. Kenny was a member of the VFW, American Legion, WDAY Honor Flight, City Council, Pelican Rapids Fire Department, Rotary, and Church Council. He drove the senior bus, delivered Meals on Wheels, brought meals from the Senior Citizens Center to Mill Pond, and drove for OAKS.  Kenny enjoyed camping, traveling and golfing.  Although his greatest joy was attending all of his grandchildren’s high school activities. Kenny is survived by his children: Carolyn (Joel) Nelson, Cheryl (Bob) King, Colette (Daryl) Haugrud, all of Pelican Rapids, MN; Cathie (Dale) Thompson, Fargo, ND; Connie (Terry) Sjostrom, Pelican Rapids, MN; Charles (Barb) Larson, Monticello, MN; Curtis (Roxann) Larson, Moorhead, MN; Christie (Dave) Shulstad, Pelican Rapids, MN; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren; brothers: Don Larson and John (Vivian) Larson. Kenny is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Joyce; his parents; granddaughter, Stephanie Gail Larson; brother, Alvin, Robert and Charles; sisters: Alice, Margaret, June and Shirley; and son-in-law, Roger Dillon. The family would like to thank LB Hospice, Villa Maria, and his round table friends at the Muddy Moose for their kindness. Visitation: Friday, February 2, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
