Kelly Thomas Brakefield, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Born on June 8, 1973, to Thomas and Barbara Brakefield, Kelly led a life filled with adventure, hard work, and cherished moments with his loved ones. He brought warmth and laughter to every room he entered and left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Kelly was a graduate of Pelican Rapids High School, Class of 1992. After his education, he embarked on a fulfilling career in construction, working at T and L Buildings where he honed his skills and displayed his commitment to craftsmanship. His talents then led him to custom fabrication and welding for Attachments International and Henry Buildings in Pelican Rapids, followed by a position at Art and Sign in Fergus Falls, where he found joy in bringing to life various signs and installations. Most recently, Kelly dedicated his skills and passion to Innova Industries in Fergus Falls until his health compelled him to take a step back.
In September of 2017, Kelly entered into a beautiful union of love and companionship with Lois Silbernagel, as they exchanged vows amidst the rustic charm of Milt's Barn near Pelican Rapids. Their love was a source of strength and support for each other, and their cherished memories will forever endure.
Kelly found solace and joy in the great outdoors. He embraced the thrill of snowmobiling, the excitement of deer and duck hunting, and the tranquility of fishing. He found peace and fulfillment in the simple act of cutting wood, a grounding ritual that allowed him to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the world around him. Kelly's greatest happiness was experienced when sharing these activities with his cherished friends and family, creating memories that will be forever treasured.
Kelly will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Lois; his devoted parents, Thomas and Barbara Brakefield; his beloved sister, Heidi Brakefield; as well as his three stepchildren, Christopher Erickson, Zackary (Sara) Erickson, and Nicole (Kelsen) Burrows; sister-in-law Lidia (Robert) Atkinson. He also leaves behind ten step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who have been touched by his infectious zest for life and unwavering loyalty.
In honoring Kelly's life, a visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 11:00-1:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 12:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. After the service there will be fellowship at the VFW. Family, friends, and all those whose lives have been touched by Kelly, are invited to come together, and celebrate his remarkable journey and allow everyone to pay their respects and bid farewell to a genuine and cherished soul.
Kelly's departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Let us remember him with love and gratitude, cherishing the moments shared, and finding solace in the knowledge that he is now at peace.
Rest in peace, dear Kelly. You will be missed and never forgotten.
Please keep Kelly's family in your thoughts and prayers.
