John Braaten, age 67, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on July 26, 2019, at Sanford on Broadway, Fargo, ND. John Frank was born March 31, 1952 in Fergus Falls, MN, to John “Lewis” and Florence (Mott) Braaten. He was baptized and confirmed at South Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Rothsay, MN. He attended school in Pelican Rapids, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1970. Following his graduation, John attended Detroit Lakes Technical College earning a degree in Culinary Arts. John worked at Crystal Sugar, Fargo, ND, Castaway Club on Pelican Lake as a chef, Velo Farms of Rothsay as a farmhand, and a rabbit judge for American Rabbit Breeders Association. John enjoyed showing chickens, ducks and rabbits at area fairs with his nephew, Joey Borth. He was also the owner/operator of Tall Pines Rabbitry. John also was a chocolate and yellow lab breeder. He is survived by his mother Florence, Aitkin, MN; brothers Charles (Karen) Braaten, Hutchinson, MN and Herbie (Linda) Braaten, Blaine, MN; sister Lisa (Mark) Borth, Dent, MN; special partner John Arai, Pelican Rapids, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his father John Lewis. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please keep the Braaten family in your thoughts and prayers.
