Jerald Lynnes

Jerald Lynnes of Pelican Rapids, MN, died July 14, 2023, at Essentia -St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes with his family by his side.

Jerald Roger Lynnes was born December 19, 1942, at the Dr. Theo Satersmoen Hospital in downtown Pelican Rapids to Clifford and Martha (Anderson) Lynnes. Because he contracted pneumonia, he was baptized at the hospital but made it home for Christmas to three excited sisters, Joy, Ramona, and Marylyn.

As a young man Jerald enjoyed working on the family farm. He also worked at West Central Turkeys in Pelican Rapids where he met his future wife, Kathryn Strandlien. They were married September 22, 1962, at North Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Jerald worked for Park Region Oil for more than 30 years and retired from there in 2006. Through the years he also dairy-farmed. In 1980 Jerald, Kathryn, and their 7 children moved to the Lynnes homestead in Norwegian Grove Township and they loved it. In 2019 the farm celebrated 150 years in Lynnes ownership.

After retirement, Jerald enjoyed hunting, driving truck part-time, and farming, but especially spending time with family.  He was also a lifelong member of North Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Jerald will be remembered and missed by his wife of 61 years, Kathryn and their 7 children: Jene (Kathryn) Lynnes of Azalea, OR, Jere (Cherie) Lynnes, Jason (Kristen) Lynnes, Jennifer (David) Sather, all of Pelican Rapids, Jared (Niki) Lynnes, Moorhead, Joshua Lynnes of Detroit Lakes, and Jeremiah (Reanna) Lynnes of Nelson, MN; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Marylyn Delp; sister-in-law Erma Nicklay, and brother-in-law Harvin (Billie) Strandlien.

Jerald is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Ramona Lynnes and Joy White; and four brothers-in-law Marvin White, William Delp, Roger Strandlien, and Stan Nicklay.

Visitation: Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2023, at North Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota with Allen Westby, S.A.M. officiating. 

Interment: North Immanuel Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota
