Ivan Soberg

Ivan Soberg, age 90, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Pelican Valley Senior Living, Pelican Rapids, MN. Ivan Kenneth Soberg was born May 14, 1928, in Pelican Rapids, MN, the son of Thoralf and Bessie (Stephenson) Soberg. He was baptized, confirmed and grew up in Pelican Rapids.  On July 18, 1954 Ivan was united in marriage to Dorothea Zitzow Kicker.  He spent most of his working years doing construction, home building and cabinet construction.  He started Soberg Construction in 1960 and retired in 1990 when his son, Kevin, took over the business.  Ivan’s greatest enjoyment was to mentor others working with wood, including his kids, grandkids, friends and scouts. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling and reading.  From 1966 to 1984 Ivan was a fireman with the Pelican Rapids Fire Department.  Ivan was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and since 1972, a charter member of the Lions Club. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dottie: 2 sons: Thomas (Nancy) Soberg, Kevin (Wendey) Soberg. 2 daughters: Melanie (James) Michels and Dawn Johnson. 13 grandchildren: Jessie (Tim) Williams, Anna Gnahn, Josey (Justin) Beyer. Matt (Anne) Soberg, Tracey (Dan) Bonitatibus. Travis (Kim) Michels, Trenton Michels, Tayler (Stephanie) Michels. Adam (Sara) Johnson, Greta Johnson, Alex (Ashley) Johnson, Dana Johnson, Maria (Kyle Bednar) Johnson. 18 Great-grandchildren: Shantell, Natalie, Lily, Hunter, Shira, Colby, Chase. Liam, Ivy, Violet, Levi, Valerie.  Emma, Ellie, Wyatt.  Olivia, Madilyn, Carter.  Sisters: Irene Lewis, Lorraine (Ordean) Rollie.  Brother-in-law LeRoy (Ardyce) Kicker and sister-in-law Lois Kicker and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Greg Johnson, brothers and sisters: Elder, Clara (Oscar), Edward, Selma (Art), Ella (Guy), Norman, Sidney, Oscar, Howard (Pauline), Bennie, Bud, Jerome (Katherine), and numerous nieces and nephews.   Visitation: Friday, March 15, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN.  Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2019, at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
