Gaylen Michael Haugrud

Gaylen Haugrud, age 70, a resident of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, formerly of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Lakes Homes, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Gaylen Michael Haugrud was born May 31, 1953, in Pelican Rapids, MN, the son of Mike and Patricia Haugrud.  At 9 months of age Gaylen had pneumonia and lost his speech as a result of the medication.  For a short time Gaylen attended Special Education classes in Pelican Rapids with Madge Minge as his teacher.

Gaylen was a happy man always smiling.  He appreciated things done for him and his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.  He loved good food, especially ice cream.  Gaylen liked flowers especially peonies, and to listen to gospel music.  He loved to go on rides and on vacations with the family, and also loved to watch the water-skiers, boats, ducks and geese on the lake.

He is survived by his brothers: Jeff (Peggy) Haugrud of Audubon, MN, Brian (Kelly) Haugrud of Naples, FL, Terry Haugrud, and Daniel Haugrud, both of Pelican Rapids; brother-in-law Kerry Grotte.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Mike and Patricia Haugrud, grandparents, sisters: Diane Hanson and Connie Grotte.
