Fred Berg, age 91, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Pelican Valley Senior Living, Pelican Rapids, MN.
Fred LeRoy was born May 24, 1930 in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Harry and Vastie (Wagstrom) Berg. He attended country school in Pelican Rapids, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School.
Following his graduation, he enlisted in the Airforce in Fergus Falls, MN in July 1951 until 1959. He completed basic training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. Then spent time as an aircraft engine mechanic at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa. The base engine shop kept the B29 Bombers flying even with many engine changes needed. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon his return from Korea, he resided in Colorado and worked for the state of Colorado. He had 29 years recognition in CSE Credit Union in Colorado. When he retired, he returned to Pelican Rapids, MN. He was a member is the VFW Post 5252 in Pelican Rapids, MN.
Fred enjoyed going to the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag, MN. He had a collection of tractors that he collected through the years.
He is survived by his sister, Rose Brickett, Dalles, OR, his brother, Harvey Berg, Lakewood, CO; nieces and nephews: Elizabeth (Al) Kissam, AZ, Michael and Marilyn Richardson, OR, Larry and Janet Richardson, TX, Susan (Tim) Thayer, ID, Diane (Steve) Spitzer, NC, Steven Berg, Michael Berg, Julie (Valor) Dodd, CO, Steven and Marcia Berg, CO, Michael and Kim Berg, NM; many great nieces and nephews, and special friend Shirley Dehart, CO.
He is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Vastie (Wagstrom) Berg, stepmom Iva Blanch “Olds” Berg, brother-in-law Floyd Richardson and sister-in-law Beverly Berg.
Memorials preferred to the Pelican Rapids Library.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Larson Funeral Home.
