Esther Lorraine "Dolly" Amundson

Esther Lorraine “Dolly” (Clauson) Amundson, age 93, of Pelican Rapids, MN, went to be with her Lord & Savior on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Pelican Valley Senior Living, Pelican Rapids, MN. Dolly was born August 19, 1926 in Pelican Rapids, MN to Morgan and Olive (Swenson) Clauson. She was baptized and confirmed at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids. Dolly went to country school at Clauson District #183 and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1943. She then worked as a Nursing Aid at Wright Memorial Hospital in Fergus Falls and then took care of the Ellis Peterson family. On June 30, 1950, Dolly was united in marriage to Reynold Amundson at Grove Lake Lutheran Church. They made their home in Pelican Rapids where she was a sales rep. for various companies. Later she was employed by the CERS Café and a Nursing Aid and Rehab Assistant at the Good Samaritan Center for many years.     Dolly was a Den Mother of Pac 313, a Sunday School teacher, a charter member of the Pelican Rapids Sweet Adelines, member of the Christian Clowns “The Master’s Merrymakers” (‘Daisy’), the Red Hatters and the Chapel Trio which consisted of Georgia Ann Albright and Iola Erickson accompanied by Merriam Lodin or Helen Johnson. She was also a charter member of the writer’s club in Pelican. She loved to write stories and poetry about her life and did so from an early age. At the time of her death she was a member of Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Pelican Rapids. Her favorite job in growing up on the farm was working with the animals. She would make pets of many, naming each one. Her cat ‘Mister’ was a special friend in her later years. She enjoyed her family most of all. Her sons and her granddaughters were a delight to her. She enjoyed reading, writing, knitting, embroidering, singing and loved coffee and cards with friends. Dolly is survived by her sons: Dan (Deb Posch) of Moorhead, MN, and Tony (Sharon) of Miraposa, CA; grandchildren: Lauren (Christian) Winnewmisser, Santa Barbara, CA, and Sarah Amundson, Felton, CA; great-grandson Atlas Winnewmisser; sisters: Marlys (Richard) Jennen of Elbow Lake, MN, and Arlene Stephenson of Bismarck, ND; sister-in-law Linda (Wayne) Augustus, Pelican Rapids, MN; plus many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Ray, her parents Morgan and Olive Clauson, brothers: Morris, Oren, Raymond, Walter, and Charles Clauson and sisters: Clarice Anderson, Ellen Hushagen, Iola Erickson, Freda Kaltvedt, Verna Clauson, and Louise Baxter. In Lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Pelican Rapids, MN.   Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Pelican Rapids with Pastor Bob Satterlie officiating.
