Eric Richard Lyon

Eric Richard Lyon (Diggy), 45, of Pelican Rapids, MN, passed away on March 16, 2025, after a difficult, but heroic battle with brain cancer at the Sanford Hospice House in Fargo, ND.

Eric was born on July 10, 1979, to Rick and Jayne Lyon and big brother Jay. Their sibling relationship was characterized by many as playful pranks/mischief and some trouble making escapades in their younger years. In their adult years, Eric and Jay enjoyed good food, “madult” beverages, cigars, and talks of life. Anyone who knew Eric, knew he was obsessed with finding/trying new “samwhiches”. Eric graduated from Pelican Rapids High School and dabbled in auto mechanics in college, only to realize he possessed a natural talent of multiple skills, a gift that required no formal honing.

Eric was married to Kirsten on September 23rd, 2006, after dating since their senior year of high school. Many did not think he would take the leap, but he did, and they were married for almost 19 years. They have two beautiful daughters, Alaina and Elley. Eric would do anything for his girls, even if it meant possible embarrassment from cheering too loudly at volleyball games.

Eric worked as a semi owner/operator for almost 16 years, traveling around the states. This allowed him to see the landscapes of the land, which he shared with his daughters when they traveled with him. Eric enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tinkering outside in the shop. He was also actively involved in gun clubs and participating in fundraising UTV runs. If there was a friend or family member in need, he would drop everything to help. He also had fashion sense that would make anyone laugh (cowboy hat, t-shirt, shorts, compression stockings, and cowboy boots). He loved making people laugh and smile, hence his other nickname, Smiley, given to him by his mother-in-law when he was dating Kirsten.

Eric is survived by his wife Kirsten; his daughters, Alaina (17) and Elley (14); his brother Jay (Kristie); his parents Rick and Jayne Lyon; his father-in-law, Dennis Hanson, and MANY other family and friends.

Eric is preceded in death by his grandpa, Dick Lyon; grandparents Jay and Eunice Malakowsky; mother-in-law Donna Hanson; and great grandparents.
