DuWayne Strom, age 82, a resident of rural Detroit Lakes, MN, died Tuesday, December 1, 2020 near his home on Pelican Lake. Edwin DuWayne was born on July 28, 1938 in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Edwin and Amanda (Brusven) Strom. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. He attended school in Pelican Rapids, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1956. He worked with his dad at Strom’s Resort on Pelican Lake. Then DuWayne served in the United States Army being stationed in Germany. On November 9, 1962 DuWayne married Darlene Stelmach at Bethel Lutheran Church. In July of 1963, DuWayne and his brother, Donald, purchased Strom’s Resort from their father. They owned and operated the resort along with the bait business until 1995. At that time, they sold the resort but continued the bait business until 2010. DuWayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and was a huge Pelican Rapids High School sports fan. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and of the Maplewood Bass Club. DuWayne is survived by his wife of 58 years, Darlene of rural Detroit Lakes; two children: Curtis Strom, Detroit Lakes, MN, Cheryl (Karl) Maltrud, Austin, TX; two grandchildren: Rorik and Brodie Maltrud; brothers: Donald (Joanne) Strom, Detroit Lakes, MN, Robert (LeVon) Strom, Pelican Rapids, MN, Norman (Vicky) Strom, Detroit Lakes, MN; brother-in-law Jerry Pierce; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Norma Pierce and Alice (Gerald) Jacobson. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at E.L. Peterson Park in Pelican Rapids with Pastor Dale Pepelnjak officiating. Please bring your own chairs. Please keep DuWayne's family in your thoughts and prayers.
