Edgar Wieland

Edgar Wieland, 73, died unexpectedly at his home on Lake Lida near Pelican Rapids on Thursday, January 14, 2021. Edgar was born October 6, 1947, on the farm near Streeter, ND to Jacob and Bertha (Guthmiller) Wieland. He was raised on the farm and attended school in Streeter. Edgar proudly served in the Army National Guard of North Dakota from 1966 to 1972. After serving in the military he returned to Streeter and worked on the family farm and drove truck. In 1974 he moved to West Fargo and drove truck for Fairway Foods and Yellow Trucking. On June 16, 1990, Edgar was united in marriage to Dianne Gurley at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in West Fargo. In 1997, they moved to Lake Lida near Pelican Rapids. Dianne died on November 1, 2009. In 2014 Edgar met his life partner, Sandy. Edgar was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the NRA. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, bowling, playing cribbage, raising bees, listening to polka and old country music. He also enjoyed making apple juice, raspberry jam, honey, and maple syrup. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edgar enjoyed helping children and was a foster dad to twenty-two children. Edgar had strong faith and always said a prayer for his meals. Edgar is survived by his sons: Randy (Vicki) Wieland, Chris (Shelly) Wieland, Dan Wieland, Matt (Heather) Gurley; grandchildren: Erica Wieland, Calie Wieland, Ben South, Hailee Wieland, Brooklyn Wieland, Alyssa Olson, Aidan Swango, Devin Gurley, Kelsie Holbrook, Dylan Holbrook, Tanya Holbrook; many great-grandchildren; brother Everette (Bonnie) Wieland; sisters: Gloria (Richard) Hedahl and Joyce (Sam) Walker; life partner Sandy Schatschneider; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by wife Dianne Wieland, parents, and sister Arlene Zurmiller. Walk Through Visitation: Wednesday, January 20, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN. Facemasks are required. Private Family Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota with Pastor Eric Schwirian and Allen Westby, S.A.M. officiating.
