Doris Minnie Ishaug

Doris Ishaug, age 94, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Pelican Valley Senior Living, Pelican Rapids, MN.

Doris Minnie was born June 9, 1927, in Pelican Township near Pelican Rapids, MN, to Erick and Minnie (Stephenson) Erickson.  She was baptized and confirmed at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church.  She attended school in Pelican Rapids, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School.

On September 23, 1945, Doris married Orphey Ishaug at her mother and dad’s home near Pelican Rapids.  Doris and Orphey farmed 3 miles west of Grove Lake Church for nine years and then moved into Pelican Rapids with the girls in 1954.  Doris worked at the Uptown Café and was an Avon Representative for 10 ½ years.  Doris also volunteered with the Nutrition Center on the food line as well as the Food Shelf.  She also was a Bluebird and Campfire leader. 

Doris was a wonderful seamstress. As a member of Pelican 4-H she made a beautiful suit and won a trip to the Minnesota State Fair.  Doris was an amazing baker and cook, no one ever left her house hungry. She was a member of North Immanuel Lutheran Church of which she was very involved and enjoyed going to ladies’ aid and Bible Study.  Doris liked to visit people at the nursing home, and if there was music playing, she would grab a partner and dance.

Doris is survived by her beloved daughters: Lois Ishaug, Barnesville, MN, and Sherry (Walter) Godsil, Durham, CA; three grandchildren: Jason (Laurie) Kolb, Ryan Godsil, Megan Godsil; five great-grandchildren: Hannah Kolb, Paige Medina, Ivy Kolb, Cruz Kolb, and Ace Kolb; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Orphey; siblings: Evelyn (Bill) Rolstad, Myrtle (Carl Tweeton) (Bernard) Hanson, Edwin (Iola) Erickson, Helen (Irwin Winkler) (Calvin) Wing, Marvin (Jolene) Erickson; infant daughter Judith Ann Ishaug; granddaughter Sarah Kolb; sister-in-law Florence (Russell) Skunberg; brothers-in-law Jewell (Betty) Ishaug and Burnette Ishaug and special friend Eugene Carlson.

Memorials preferred to donor’s choice.

Visitation: Thursday, February 3, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 4, 2022, at North Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
