Doris May Bredell

July 23, 1926 — October 5, 2021

Doris May Headland Bredell age 95, a resident of Pelican Rapids MN died on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Pelican Valley Nursing Home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Doris was born on July 23rd, 1926 in Fargo North Dakota to Herman and Dolly Headland. She went to school in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High school. After graduation she held jobs at the Fargo Forum and DeLendercies Department store in advertising. Her favorite job was as a lifeguard at Island Park swimming pool in Fargo. Doris met her future husband Don in August of 1945 while on a double date. It was love at first sight. They were married February 1, 1946 in Fargo during a blizzard. They were married for 60 years until Don passed. They lived in Fargo while Don completed college at NDSU. Son Danny was born in 1947. The family then moved to Barnesville Minnesota. They moved back to Fargo for around 20 years. Daughters Jill and Bonnie and son Randy were born while they lived in Fargo. The family then lived in Puyallup Washington for a year before moving to Pelican Rapids MN in 1969. The family then moved to Doris’s beloved lake home on Lake Lida where much fun was had. Doris loved the lake and learned to water ski when she was in her 40s. She loved to swim and sit in the sun. She had bird houses and loved to watch the orioles and hummingbirds. She had large vegetable and flower gardens. Don and Doris eventually sold their lake home and moved to a beautiful home at the edge of Pelican Rapids in 1997. Doris stayed in that home for many years, moving to Pelican Valley Nursing Home in 2017. She was much loved by the nursing home staff. Doris loved Minnesota Vikings football and especially NDSU Bison football. She had season tickets with Don and later with daughter Jill. Doris was active at the United Church of Christ, Women’s Civic and belonged to two birthday groups in Pelican Rapids. She loved to travel with Don. Favorite destinations were France, Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand. They spent many winters in Sun City Arizona. Doris is survived by daughter Bonnie Bredell of Fargo, son Randy Bredell (Britt) of Charleston South Carolina and daughter-in-law Kristi Bredell of Fargo. Also, seven grandchildren: Brad Bredell (Michelle), Libby Kaiser (Adam), Brady Bredell, Haven Osman (Danika), Tyler Osman (Tasha), Jordan Bredell and Jacob Bredell. Along with seven great grandchildren: Abbey, Connor, Haven, Brynlee, Jude, DeKaylee and Evelyn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, brother Bob Headland, son Danny Bredell, daughter Jill Osman and her precious dogs Greta and Buddy. Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley or a favorite charity of your choice. Visitation from 12:00-1:00 PM on October 8, 2021 at the First Congregational United Church for Christ in Pelican Rapids MN, followed by the service at 1:00 PM at the church.
