Carol Johnson

April 13, 1945 — September 8, 2024

Carol Rae (Whyte) Johnson, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota.

Carol Rae was born on April 13, 1945, in Pine City, Minnesota to Robert and Mae Whyte. She grew up on a farm just east of Hinckley, attending school in town. At a young age, she committed her life to the Lord at home with her mother. She was involved in band (playing the clarinet), choir, accompanying singers on the piano, and many church activities. Graduating from Hinckley High School, she went on to attend nursing school at Swedish Hospital's School of Nursing in Minneapolis, completing her RN degree. While at nursing school, she attended a missions conference in Urbana, Illinois, and met Jim Johnson. Before they met, God had already planted the seeds of ministry in their hearts. Jim and Carol were married on July 15, 1967. God blessed them with two children, Bob and Mindy.

Carol was a devoted wife to Jim throughout their 57 years of marriage. They ministered together throughout their lives, moving from Moorhead to Pelican Rapids to work with the church. Carol had the gift of hospitality. They hosted countless gatherings at their home including bible studies, VBS (Vacation Bible School), church picnics and baptismal services on the lake. Many family gatherings included meals on the deck, in the dining room or even the kitchen counter, just spending time with family and friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother with many years of "grand camp", craft/sewing projects, swimming with the kids or floating the river. She joined in supporting fishing and hunting adventures or trips to the woods. Carol cheered on her grandkids in sporting events. Her greatest joy was seeing her kids and grandkids growing in faith and walking with the Lord.

She worked in long-term care for 35+ years at the Good Samaritan Center in Pelican Rapids, where she taught nursing classes, working with staff and caring for people. Her smiling face brightened the day for many people. Carol also loved flowers and gardens. She spent countless hours at their home on the lake tending to her flower beds and plants.

Carol was very involved with Calvary Evangelical Free Church, playing piano, singing and accompanying vocalists. Music was a part of her life. She loved spending time in women's Bible study groups growing deep relationships. She was a mentor and shared wise counsel through the years. She was a student of God's Word and a prayer partner to many.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mae Whyte. She is survived by her husband Jim; their two children, Bob (Francie) Johnson of Watertown, South Dakota, and Mindy (Glenn) Heinsch of Moorhead, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Abby, Lydia (Zach), Anna (Jayden), Connor (Phoenix), Carter, Carson and Cayden; and five great grandchildren: Kaylee, Sophia, Violette, Alfie and one more soon to arrive. Her brother Dave (Lynn) Whyte of Sandstone, Minnesota, and her sister Bev (Phil) Condit of Fargo, North Dakota and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Proverbs 31:10.

Her children arise and call her blessed. Proverbs 31:28a
