Carl Breckenfelder, 89, of St. Anthony, MN, formerly of Erhard, MN, died Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Chandler Place in St. Anthony, MN with family by his side. Carl Elwyn was born February 5, 1930 in Coon Valley Township, Sac County, Iowa to Frank and Hilda (Hensel) Breckenfelder. He attended school in Auburn, IA, graduating from Auburn High School in 1947. He farmed with his dad until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and ranked as a Corporal when discharged. On October 10, 1954, Carl was united in marriage to Wilma Pfannkuch in Lakeview, IA. In 1957, they moved to Minnesota and bought their farm in Erhard in 1959. Carl worked at Northern Turkey and Apple Tree Farms for over 30 years until he retired in 1992. Wilma died in November 27, 2009. Carl enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He was a member of Western Steam Threshers Reunion, Red River Valley Woodcarvers, and Maple Grove Woodcarving Group. He worked in the Woodcarving Shack at the Western Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag. Carl and Wilma would stay up until the wee hours of the night listening to the music at Rollag. One of his greatest joys was visiting with family and friends. Carl is survived by his daughters: Margie (Russ) Johnson, Minneapolis, MN, and Mary Jo (Tom) Dillon, Maple Grove, MN; four grandchildren: Mallory (Jesse) Shetka, Mitchell (Rachel) Dillon, Gretchen and Cassie Dillon; step-grandchildren: Becky Harmon and Christy Johnson; three great-grandchildren: Isaac, Genevieve and Amelia Shetka; sister-in-law LaVelle (Paul) Follingstad; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Wilma; two brothers: Frank (Opal) Breckenfelder and Elmer (Betty) Breckenfelder. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, MN. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Faith Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids with Pastor Michael Buller officiating. Burial will be at Ringsaker Cemetery near Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Military Honors: Pelican Rapids V.F.W.
