Arlene Delp, 84, of rural Pelican Rapids, died on Friday, December 31, 2021, at the Riverfront on Main in Pelican Rapids. Arlene LaVonne was born to Oscar and Minnie (Hanson) Ishaug on March 4, 1937. She was baptized and confirmed at North Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids. Arlene graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1955. Upon graduation she went to work at a bank in Moorhead returning to Pelican Rapids and went to work at J.P. Wallace Bank until 1969. Arlene was united in marriage with LeRoy Delp on January 31, 1959. She then enrolled at Fergus Falls Community College and got her Associate of Arts Degree in 1971. Then she enrolled in Moorhead State where she majored in History with a minor in Scandinavian studies graduating Magna Cum Laude from Moorhead State. Since they didn’t offer a Master of Arts Degree in History, she accepted a teaching assistantship in NDSU where she worked for the next two years in the history department finishing all the requirements of a Master’s in History Degree except for her thesis paper which she never did finish. After working at a few jobs, she returned to the farm and took up dairying. She was a trained vocalist and sang trio with her sister and cousin at various events. She enjoyed reading and writing, she was writing several books. She was a lifetime member of North Immanuel Lutheran Church. Arlene is survived by her sister-in-law Loretta Ishaug; special friend Joseph Cote; 2 nieces and 5 nephews. She is preceded in death by parents; brothers Marvin and Clayton Ishaug; sister Mavis Erickson. Arlene always had a special place in her heart for cats, so memorials preferred to Ottertail County Humane Society in Fergus Falls. Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2022 at Larson Funeral Home in Pelican Rapids with Pastor Isaiah Bai officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
