Arlan Victor Haugrud

Arlan Haugrud, age 90, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Riverfront on Main in Pelican Rapids, MN. Arlan was born January 7, 1931, in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Knut M. and Johanna (Sundstrom) Haugrud. He was the youngest of 7 children. He was baptized and confirmed at Grove Lake Lutheran Church. He attended country school District 26 (Holen School) near Pelican Rapids. His father died when Arlan was a one-year-old, so Arlan worked on the family dairy farm growing up. He married DeLores Ann Elizabeth Killingstad on September 4, 1954 at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Arlan continued to dairy and crop farm on the home farmstead for most of his life. In later years he farmed with his son, Rick. He was also a corn and bean seed salesman for many years. Arlan was a lifetime member of Grove Lake Lutheran Church and served a couple terms as president of the church council and was very active in church activities. Arlan enjoyed the county fair and 4-H in his early years. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved spending time at the lake property. Arlan and DeLores spent many winters in Arizona and traveling to Hawaii, Florida, and other areas. He was a kind and loving man. He was a wonderful caregiver to his wife, DeLores before she died on December 4, 2017. He is survived by his children who will miss him dearly: Barb (Steve) Backstrom, Nancy (Randy) Nubson, Rick (Jan) Haugrud; seven grandchildren: Robert (Greta) Backstrom, Greg (Meryl) Backstrom, Beau (BreAnn) Haugrud, Adam Doll, Jake (Jess) Doll, Abby (Marc) Westby and Lisa (Tyler) Arvidson; step-grandchildren: Avery and Autumn Nubson; great-grandchildren: Abby and Reed Backstrom, Grace and Hope Doll, Harry and Lenny Haugrud, Easton, Wyatt and Amelia Arvidson; brother K. Milton Haugrud and Donna; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 63 years DeLores, granddaughter, brother James Haugrud; sisters: Kathleen, Linda, Clara, and Mildred. Visitation: Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, Rural Pelican Rapids, MN. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
