REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF...James LaVerne Orner was born June 29, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Jeff and Wilda (Weeks) Orner. Jim grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Sioux City High School in 1943. Then Jim served in the United States Navy during World War II. After his military duty Jim moved to Great Falls, Montana and was a rural carrier for the United States Postal Service. On October 10, 1952 Jim was united in marriage to Dorothy Reeder in Great Falls. Jim and Dorothy moved to Eagle Bend, Minnesota where they resided until he retired from the United States Postal Service. After his retirement Jim and Dorothy moved to Deming, New Mexico. In 2001 Dorothy died in Deming, New Mexico. Soon after Dorothy's death Jim moved to Pelican Rapids to be closer to his daughter. Jim enjoyed metal detecting. The photograph for the obituary was taken by Andros "Andy" Thompson was featured on the cover of the book titled Cache Hunting by H. Glenn Carson, printed by Cache Press in 1984. The photograph showed my father with a cache of bayonets, bullets and other items he found with his metal detector at the World War I Camp Cody outside Deming, NM. James, age 81, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, formerly of Deming, New Mexico, died on Friday, October 20, 2006, at his home in Pelican Rapids, MN.Jim is survived by his daughter: Judy (Stephen) Patrick, Pelican Rapids, MN; son: James Orner Jr., Bloomington, MN; 5 grandchildren: Justin and James Patrick, Pelican Rapids, MN, Anthony and Daniel Orner, Pelican Rapids, Ruth Orner, Florida; 2 great grandchildren; sister: Phyllis (George) Luchsinger, Tennessee.Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son: Jeff Orner; brother: Eugene.Blessed Be The Memory Of James Orner, Sr.
