REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF...James Woodward McMullen was born August 2, 1916, in Werner, North Dakota, the son of Theo and Maud (Woodward) McMullen. He attended school in Werner, graduating in 1934. On July 6, 1941 James was united in marriage to Mabel Marie Flinn in North Dakota. From 1942 to 1946 he served with the United States Army Air Corp. After his discharge from the service , Jim worked in Bismarck, Oakes and Fargo, North Dakota. His longest employment was with the Fargo Letter Carriers for over 20 years. Before his retirement in 1979, Jim was helping to start the Credit Union with the Fargo Letter Carriers. After his retirement Jim and Mabel moved to Pelican Rapids. Mabel died on November 20, 1991.Jim?s greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jim enjoyed helping others, locksmithing, and fixing things that needed repair. He also enjoyed playing cards, and especially enjoyed crocheting in his later years.He enjoyed bowling in the FM Bowling Association and served as president from 1963 to 1965. Jim was a member of the First Methodist Church in Fargo before moving to Pelican Rapids. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids where he served on the Church Council for several years.James, age 90, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Thursday, November 23, 2006, at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.Jim is survived by his daughter: Winnie (Marv) Martinson of Pelican Rapids; 2 granddaughters: Beth (Dave) McDonald and Cindy (Tim) Hart, both of Pelican Rapids; 6 great-grandchildren: Brett and Logan McDonald, Andria, Gavin, Preston and Hayden Hart, all of Pelican Rapids; brother: Max (Esther) McMullen of Bismarck; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.Blessed Be The Memory Of James W.
