REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF...Genevieve Irene Haarstad was born September 18, 1921, near Pelican Rapids, the daughter of Eric and Ann (Ness) Haarstad. She was baptized and confirmed at South Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Rothsay, MN. Genevieve attended country school #78 near Pelican Rapids, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School. On August 30, 1942 Genevieve was united in marriage to Kermit Westby in Tacoma, Washington. Kermit and Genevieve lived in Pelican Rapids, Bemidji, and later moved back to Pelican Rapids. Genevieve worked at the Broadway Cafe, Larson's SuperValu, and Boe's Grocery, retiring in 1983. Kermit died on August 6, 1981. In November of 2000 Genevieve entered the Pelican Valley Nursing Home.Genevieve was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post # 5252. She enjoyed music and dancing.Genevieve, age 85, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Sunday, January 7, 2007, at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.Genevieve is survived by her 6 children: Gene (Joyce Bovee) Westby of Coon Rapids, MN, Richard "Rick" (Annette) Westby of Pelican Rapids, Judy McGilvrey of Shoreview, MN, Jane (Stuart) Olson of Shoreview, MN, Jack (Cindy) Westby of Fargo, ND, JoAnn (Don) Perrin of Pelican Rapids; 13 grandchildren: Lisa Hoyt, Kristine Walsh, Daniel Agusto, Darren Westby, Matthew Westby, Andrew Westby, Natalie Olson, Molly Olson, Christopher Westby, Sally Perrin, Samuel Perrin, Marc Westby, Michelle Westby; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kermit; son, Jerry; and 11 brothers and sisters.Blessed Be The Memory Genevieve Westby
