REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF...Ruby M. Nelson was born March 26, 1918, at home in Tansem Township, near Barnesville, MN, the daughter of Julius and Annette (Hanson) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at West North Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids. Ruby attended country school district #12 near Barnesville, and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1938. On February 15, 1941, Ruby was united in marriage to Jay Hagen at the South Immanuel parsonage in rural Rothsay, MN. After their marriage Jay and Ruby farmed on the Hagen homestead. Along with raising her 6 children, she sold Stanley Home Products. In 1999 Ruby entered the Good Samaritan Home. Jay died on September 10, 1999.Ruby was a member of Grove Lake Lutheran Church where she was active in teaching Sunday school, ladies aid, and other church activities. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway, and a former 4-H leader. One of Ruby's joys was dancing, and she will always be remembered for her humor. Her greatest love was being a MOM.Ruby, age 89, died on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.Ruby is survived by her 5 sons: Roger (Mary) Hagen of Roseville, CA, Gordon (Ardella) Hagen of Fergus Falls, MN, Ervin (Hollie) Hagen of Fergus Falls, Rod (Jill) Hagen of Pelican Rapids, and Wes (Laura) Hagen of Pelican Rapids; daughter: Marlene (Lyle) Castonguay of Bemidji, MN; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 3 brothers: Lawrence (Gladys) Nelson of Barnesville, Elmer (Eunice) Nelson of Pelican Rapids, and Robert (Darlene) Nelson of West Fargo, ND; sister: Lillian Resset of Pelican Rapids; sister-in-law: Harriet Nelson of Missoula, MT; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay; great-grandson, Isaiah Alberts; 5 brothers: William, James, Albin, Rueben and infant brother, James; and 4 sisters: Gilma Nelson, Selma Wee, Clara Julsrud, and Evelyn Ness.Blessed Be The Memory Of Ruby Hagen
