Maxine Eloise Vangsness was born April 1, 1922, in Moorhead, Minnesota, the daughter of Myron and Ella (Hoff) Vangsness. She graduated from Moorhead High School and Moorhead Teacher's College. She taught in Bagley, MN, and Crosby - Ironton, MN, and later was a substitute in Pelican Rapids. On March 31, 1946 Maxine was united in marriage to John W. Rundle at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN. After their marriage John and Maxine lived in Oakland, CA. In 1947 they moved to Pelican Lake, near Pelican Rapids, where they owned and operated Bob Creek Resort. In the early 1960's they operated Pelican Floral, and in the late 1960's, they opened a Montgomery Ward's in Pelican Rapids. Maxine also worked at the Shoe Inn in Pelican Rapids, and the Petal Pusher Nursery in Cormorant. John and Maxine spent their winters in Desert Hot Springs, CA, and their summers on Pelican Lake. John died on August 24, 1996. In 2000 Maxine moved to the Hawley Assisted Living for a couple years. Maxine entered the St. Mary's Nursing Home in 2002.The love of Maxine's life was her family. She also enjoyed singing, playing the piano and organ, baking, boating, and playing cards. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was active in the choir. Maxine was very involved in community activities.Maxine Rundle, age 85, a resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Pelican Rapids, MN, died on Friday, August 24, 2007, at the St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes.Maxine is survived by her 2 sons: Tom (Debi) Rundle of Pelican Rapids, and Mike (Bobbie) Rundle of California City, CA; 2 daughters: Sandy (Larry) Rundle - Stack of Palm Springs, CA, and Cheryl (Mike) Jahnke of Vergas, MN; 6 grandchildren: Lance (Lisa) Gravelle, Sheri (David) Hamiga, Cody (Kelly) Bahls, Shane (Donya) Jahnke, Jon Rundle and Seth Rundle; 8 great-grandchildren: Casyn Rundle, Ella Hamiga, McKenna Hamiga, Spencer Hamiga, Kyra Bahls, Kadin Bahls, Caylisa Bahls and Nick Erickson; and great-great-grandson: Ryan Erickson.
