Dorothy Jessen

Dorothy Jessen, age 81, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Monday, December 10, 2007, at Innovis Health in Fargo, North Dakota.Dorothy Marion Schwartz was born April 28, 1926, in Culbertson, Nebraska, the daughter of Walter and Melva (Easton) Schwartz. On June 3, 1946 Dorothy was united in marriage to Merlyn "Mike" Jessen in Atlantic, Iowa. In 1958 Mike and Dorothy moved to Pelican Rapids. Dorothy began to work at West Central Turkeys Inc as a line worker, later working as a USDA inspector and then as a USDA grader, retiring in 1985. She also worked as a USDA grader in Aitken for several years. Mike died on June 7, 1974.One of Dorothy's joys was the times she and Mike spent fishing together. Dorothy also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed cross-stitch, baking, crocheting and bowling. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She is survived by her son, Michael (Andrea) Jessen of Pelican Rapids; daughter, Crystal (Stephen) Johnson of Dent, MN; 3 grandchildren: Nicholas (Teena) Jessen, April (Jason) Thorson and Kallia Rinkel; 5 great-grandchildren: Callista and Kelsey Thorson, Allison Jessen, and Cody and Cassie Pixley; sister, Doris Lanam of Omaha, Nebraska; special family, the children of Ed and Betty Arntson; numerous nieces and nephews; and close friend, Vicki Koplin.
