Lois Meland, age 83, a resident of Pelican Rapids, MN, died on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.Lois Mae Nastansky was born May 14, 1924, the daughter of Max and Lorraine (Larsen) Nastansky in International Falls, MN, where she attended school and graduated from International Falls High School. In 1942 Lois attended medical technology school in Minneapolis and later came to Pelican Rapids where she was a lab technician for Dr. Korda. On February 24, 1951 Lois was united in marriage to Harding Meland in International Falls. They resided in Pelican Rapids where she continued to work for Dr. Korda until 1952 when Lois and Harding owned and operated Harding's Steak House in Pelican Rapids. In 1960 they opened and operated a store selling RCA products in Pelican Rapids. In 1970 they owned and operated Harding's restaurant in Pelican Rapids until their retirement in 1974. Harding died on July 7, 1994. On November 27, 2007 Lois entered the Pelican Valley Nursing Home.Lois was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Trinity Lutheran Church. Lois enjoyed knitting, the smell of sweet pea flowers, and cuddling with her cats. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.Lois is survived by her son: Blake (Roxanne) Meland of Pelican Rapids, MN; three grandchildren: Dana (Scott) Hendricks of Lake Park, MN, Wayne Meland of Fergus Falls, MN, and Michael Meland of Pelican Rapids; two great-granddaughters: Daryan and Shayla Hendricks; and great-grandson, Kacee Meland.She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Lorraine Nastansky, and her husband, Harding Meland.Blessed Be The Memory Of Lois Meland
