Mabel Nelson, age 94, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.Mabel Beatrice Rice was born October 20, 1913 in Vergas, MN, the daughter of Warren and Mattie (Aupperle) Rice. She attended country school district #166 near Vergas and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1931. Mabel attended nurse's training school at the State Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN. On September 27, 1934 Mabel was united in marriage to Almer Nelson at the Central Lutheran parsonage. In the 1950's Mabel worked in the potato fields near Barnesville, MN. Then in the early 1960's she began working at West Central Turkeys Inc, Pelican Rapids, where she became a meat and poultry government inspector for eighteen years until her retirement. Almer died on August 11, 1982. In March 2005 Mabel entered the Pelican Valley Nursing Home.Mabel enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning. Her greatest love was her grandchildren. Mabel was a member of Central Lutheran Church where she was active in the church circle and ladies aid.Mabel is survived by her son, Arlen (Gladys) Nelson on Pelican Rapids; daughter, Jean Satter of Pelican Rapids; 7 grandchildren: Jodeen Grant, Arlene Stadum, Monte Nelson, Michael Nelson, Roxie Boettcher, Brett Erickson, Derek Satter; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law: Erna Nelson Johnson, Della Rice and Lois Rice; and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Almer; son, Richard; 5 brothers: George, Hugh, Harold, Al, Wesslie; 3 sisters: Bernice, Hope, Bertie; and son-in-law, Les Satter.Blessed Be The Memory Of Mabel Nelson
