Ruth Sherbrooke

Ruth Sherbrooke, age 90, of Barnesville, MN and longtime resident of Cormorant, MN died on Thursday, August 21, 2008, under the tender care of the Good Samaritan Society of Barnesville, Red River Valley Hospice and Barnesville Clinic.Ruth Solona Baldwin was born October 13, 1917, in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Herbert and Ethel (Potter) Baldwin. Growing up, she attended Dilworth public school in Dilworth, MN. On February 14, 1936, Ruth was united in marriage to Henry Sherbrooke at his parents home near Cormorant. Ruths work and joy was raising her family. She also worked outside the home cleaning lake homes, being a dining room hostess at Fair Hills Resort on Pelican Lake and working at the Concordia College Faculty Post Office. Henry died on November 4, 1990, at his home. Ruth entered the Good Samaritan Society in Barnesville in April of 2007.As a longtime member of Cormorant Lutheran Church, Ruth was involved in many areas, including ladies aid, circle, Bible study, and Sunday School superintendent and teacher. She was active in the community, especially with those activities that involved her family, including PTA and 4-H.Ruth enjoyed music, often being involved with vocal ensembles. She had many interests and creative hobbies including fabric arts and gardening. Another interest was history of the area and family genealogy.With her husband, Ruth created a loving home with much fun, laughter...and great food. She often spoke of how God had so richly blessed her with her childhood family, her husband, children, grandchildren and other family and friends. Her faith in God was a constant source of strength throughout her life. She leaves a legacy of love commitment to a grateful family and community.Ruth is survived by her two sons: Richard (Kathy) Sherbrooke, Cormorant, Ron (Joanne) Sherbrooke, Lake Park; three daughters: Annetta (Gary) Nelson, Petersburg, ND, Becky (Steve) Frank, Moorhead, and Jennifer Sherbrooke, Hawley; 12 grandchildren: Mark (Joann) Nelson, Becky (Dean) Geiselhart, Kirsten (Steve) Minnerath, Blaine (Cathy) Sherbrooke, David (Paula) Sherbrooke, Bruce (DAnne) Sherbrooke, Michelle (Joe) McCarthy, Brent (Leah) Sherbrooke, Gina (Vince) Leendertsen, Adam (Jill) Sherbrooke, Nathan (Holly) Frank, and Heather (Michael) Olivier; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter (Noni) Baldwin, Anchorage, AK; four sisters: Edith Erickson, Anchorage, AK, Rhoda Page, Vancouver, WA, Vida Karnofski, Longview, WA, Rene (Frank) Schmidt, Vancouver, WA.Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Rhonda Bartsch; two sisters: Ethel Fairfowl and Esther Bacon; one brother, Francis Lucky, and two infant brothers: James Thomas and Henry Robert.Blessed Be The MemoryOf Ruth Sherbrooke
