SPOKESMAN FOR GODBELOVED HUSBAND, DAD & GRANDPA Lloyd Swan, age 89, a resident of Pelican Rapids, died peacefully Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.He was born October 10, 1919 in Strasburg, ND to parents, William and Lossie Swan.He grew up in Roscoe, SD where he enjoyed pheasant and rabbit hunting as a boy.He endured life on the prairie through the Dust Bowl days of the Great Depression.After graduating from high school with honors, he studied at Northern State in Aberdeen, SD before transferring and subsequently graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy.After a brief stint as a researcher for Ulmer Pharmaceutical Mfg., he managed a Walgreens pharmacy in Minneapolis. Ultimately, he decided to start his own pharmacy, Swan Drug, in Pelican Rapids, MN in the year 1947.For 47 years he poured his life into this business and is remembered as a good provider for his family, a kind employer and a civic-minded business owner.He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed bowling, painting, and was a master gardener.His hobby farm gave him years of great enjoyment in his retirement.His passion in life was proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ.Experiential Christianity was his core belief.As a result, he lived a blessed life and experienced the joy of knowing he touched many lives. He was a dedicated Rotarian, Camp Joy board member, Full-Gospel businessman, city council member, church leader, Sunday school teacher, Gideon, faithful mens prayer group member and pharmacist.But foremost in his life was his desire to share Christ.HE PUT JESUS FIRST.He is survived by his wife June Swan; and children:Pam (Glenn) Nord, Lakeville, MN, Carol (Dave) Tomljanovich, Knoxville, TN, Paul (Janice) Swan, Austin, MN; eight grandchildren:Andrea Liechty, Amy Tiebout, Cathy Welch, Jenny Ortner, Wendy Denbrook, David Swan, Peter Swan, Natalie Swan; sister, Ethel (Bob) Hascall, Edina, MN; sister-in-law, Joycelyn Beck, Minneapolis, MN; brother-in-law, Richard (Bernice) Utne, San Diego, CA; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Memorials are preferred to: Camp Joy Bible Camp, C/O Dale Heaton, PO Box 372, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572Calvary Free Building Fund, 101 10th Avenue SE, Pelican Rapids, MN56572Blessed Be the Memory of Lloyd Swan
