Esther Jenson

Esther Jenson, age 91, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids, MN.Esther Josephine Nettestad was born July 8, 1917 on the Fltlien farm near Pelican Rapids the daughter of Edwin and Jennie (Hagerup) Nettestad.She was baptized and confirmed at South Immanuel Lutheran Church near Rothsay, MN. She attended country school at District 87 near Pelican Rapids. Esther worked as a hired-girl cooking and cleaning for numerous neighbors and also worked as a waitress at the Baglien cafe.On October 16, 1935 Esther was united in marriage to Odin Jenson in Pelican Rapids. Esther and Odin farmed west of Pelican Rapids until their retirement. Esther also worked at the Dave and Teds Meat Locker plant in Pelican Rapids for a period of time.In 1992 Esther and Odin moved into Pelican Rapids. In May of 2002 Esther and Odin entered Pelican Valley Nursing Home. On June 9, 2003 Odin died at the nursing home.Esther enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and quilting.She enjoyed playing cards, especially UNO and Kings-in-the-Corner.Another pastime was watching the Minnesota Twins on television.Esther was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and their ladies aid.She was also involved with homemakers, RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), Pelican Valley Hospital and Nursing Home Auxiliary.Esther is survived by four daughters: Avis (Jim) Nelson of Kimberling City, MO, Joyce (Juel) Arneson of Colorado Springs, CO, Marge Nelson of Cottage Grove, MN, and Pauline Fischer of Fargo, ND; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Gobel, Pelican Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Odin; two grandchildren: John and Jennie; three brothers: Harry, Milo, and Orin; two sisters, Florence Small and a 7-year-old sister, Elna; and a son-in-law: Jim Nelson.Blessed Be the Memory of Esther Jenson
