Don "DK" Dodd

Donald DK Dodd, age 73, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.Donald Keith Dodd was born August 13, 1935, in Cloquet Minnesota, the son of Gordon and Jennie (Simonson) Dodd.He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Floodwood, MN.In 1953, DK graduated from Floodwood High School.He worked for Stromberg Carlson Telephone Company out of Rochester, New York, as a telephone engineer, where he traveled the United States installing telephone systems.On September 8, 1956, he was united in marriage to Janet Schneider in Sarasota, Florida. The U.S. Army drafted DK in 1958. He completed his basic training at Fort Collins, Colorado, and then he was stationed at the White Sands Missile Range in Alamogordo, New Mexico.He served in the U.S. Army until 1960, and then resumed his employment at Stromberg Carlson Telephone Company where he worked for over 11 years.In 1963, they moved to Two Harbors, MN, where DK was employed at Continental Telephone Company.They moved in 1971, to the Twin Cities when DK was transferred.The Hohman Telephone Company brought DK and his family to the Pelican Rapids area.Hohman Telephone Company later became Loretel Systems in which DK retired from in 1996.DK enjoyed many outdoor activities with family and friends; some of his favorites were motorcycling, snowmobiling, hunting, camping and golfing.After he retired, DK and Janet frequently traveled the United States.A favorite spot of DKs was the North Shore of Minnesota.He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in the Pelican Rapids American Legion Post #17, and the Two Harbors Moose Lodge #1463 and the Two Harbors Jaycees.DK is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Cathy (Dennis) Sundlie of Rosemount, MN; son, Brian of Fargo, ND; two grandchildren: Katie and Andrew Sundlie of Rosemount, MN; three brother-in-laws: Jim (January) Schneider of Tipp City, OH, David (Connie) Schneider or Sidney, OH, Michael (Mary) Schneider of New Bremen, OH; one sister-in-law, Judy Brandewie of Sidney, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.DK was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan; father and mother-in-law, Fred and Viola Schneider; grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles.Blessed be the Memory of DK Dodd
