Lester Schultz, age 83, a resident of Ottertail, Minnesota, died on Monday,December 1, 2008, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.Lester Earl Schultz was born December 7, 1924, in Winfred, South Dakota, the son of Albert and Christina (Mahoney) Schultz. He lived in rural Madison, South Dakota, and attended rural school until his freshmen year when the family moved to Lake Herman.He attended General Beattle in Madison prior to joining the U.S. Navy in 1941.In 1945, he was honorably discharged after serving four years.On April 7, 1947, Les was united in marriage to Ruth Schlapkohl in Marshall, Minnesota.They farmed in South Dakota until they moved to Pelican Rapids, Minnesota in 1961.While farming in Pelican Rapids, Les also worked at the Texaco Station and drove turkey truck.In his later years he moved to Madison, Wisconsin, to help his uncle in the tobacco field, and while living there, also worked at Peitsch Landscaping and Dane County Expo.He moved back home to be with his wife in Ottertail in 1996.Les enjoyed woodworking, fishing, giving pontoon rides (to whoever dared to go with him), and kissing the baby.At his home in Ottertail, he faithfully fed the geese, swans and squirrels. He was passionate about country music.He especially took pleasure in spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He enjoyed life to the utmost, above all, when his family came home to visit.Les is survived by his wife, Ruth; three sons:Jim (Pearl) Schultz, Pelican Rapids, MN, John (Darla) Schultz, Pelican Rapids, MN, and Mike (Cindy) Schultz, Madison, WI; two daughters:Barb Marquardt, Rothsay, MN and Kristy de St. Maurice, Vergas, MN; 11 grandchildren: Earl (Shelly) Schultz, David (Alicia) Schultz, Keresa Schultz, Brian Marquardt, Tim (Kari) Marquardt, Mike (Julie) Kugler, Shelly (Brandon) Ross, Steven (Sara) Schultz, Jeremiah Schultz, Nicole Davis, Heidi (Brian) Bond; 13 great-grandchildren; foster sister, Jean Withee, OK; daughter-in-law, Jackie Schultz, Maryville, CA, and several cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Butch Schultz; grandson, Troy Schultz; foster brother, Allen Killion; two son-in-laws: Robert Marquardt and Charlie de St. Maurice; and his in-laws.Blessed be the memory of Les Schultz
