Palmer Nelson, 92, died Friday, December 12, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.Palmer Clarence Nelson was born June 24, 1916, at Henning, Minnesota, to Ida (Nelson) and Peter Nelson. The family later moved to Elizabeth, Minnesota. As a young man he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and then enlisted in the United States Army.Palmer and Ella Wahl were married on February 2, 1941, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls by the Reverend H. C. Alden with Ted and Ione Lindsey as witnesses.Palmer and Ella lived first in Elizabeth, then in Marina, California, while Palmer received training prior to serving in the European Theater during World War II. Upon his military discharge in 1945, after serving 4 years, the couple moved to Rothsay, Minnesota, where they worked on farms and saved money to buy their own farm at Erhard, Minnesota, in 1946.Ella died December 26, 1998. Palmer moved to the Mill Pond Apartments in Pelican Rapids in 2003.Palmer was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard where he served on the Church Council. He also was an adult 4-H leader and served as an Erhards Grove Township Supervisor. His lifelong loves were farming and his wife and family.Preceding Palmer in death were his parents; brothers Clifford, Murphy, and Elmer; and sisters Laura, Lilly, and Mayme.Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis (Dick) Rossow of Rothsay; son, Dean (Mary) Nelson of Erhard, grandchildren: Paula (Bob) Williams, Arica (Fred Sanchez) Rossow, Danielle Rossow, Christopher Nelson, Aaron Nelson, and Cassandra Nelson; great-grandchildren: Xander Williams, Anya Williams, Toni Rossow, and Parker Sanchez; a sister, Elsie Stensrud; a brother, Ervin Nelson; and several generations of nieces and nephews.Memorials preferred to Building Fund for Grace Lutheran Church.Blessed Be The Memory of Palmer Nelson
