Virgil Cummins, age 76, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.Virgil was born July 25, 1932, in his grand-parents home near Glenwood, Minnesota, the son of Melvin and Leona (Foner) Cummins.He attended school in Sedan, Minnesota and worked on the family farm in his youth.On January 20, 1951, Virgil was united in marriage to Elsie Bowen in Glenwood.They moved to Benson, Minnesota, where he delivered milk for a short time and worked in produce later becoming produce manager at C & H Merchantile (Custer & Hornbacher).In 1956, they moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area, where he worked at Northport Super Valu (later known as Hornbachers) as produce manager winning several awards for his displays. From 1968- 1980, they owned and operated the Lake Eunice Resort, near Audubon, Minnesota. During these years, Virgil continued his employment with Hornbachers.In 1980, Virgil and Elsie moved back to Fargo where they remained until 1984.In 1984, they moved to Dunvilla, Minnesota, near Pelican Rapids, commuting to Fargo daily until Virgil retired in 1994.Elsie died December 23, 1990.Virgil lived in Dunvilla until the time of his death.Virgil was a member of: Benson, MN and Fargo, NDJaycees, Moorhead Rod & Gun Club, Cormorant Lakes Sports Club and Zion Lutheran Church.Virgil loved the outdoors especially fishing, hunting, and golfing.He enjoyed bowling and particularly liked playing cards with anyone who was willing.His greatest enjoyment was in spending time with his family.Virgil is survived by his children: Patti Cummins (Jerry Kalvik), Detroit Lakes, MN, Joyce (Craig) Grahn, Pelican Rapids, MN, Robin (Steven) Busch, Lake Park, MN, Mike Cummins, Fargo, ND, Pamela (Tom) Olson, Pelican Rapids, MN; grandchildren:Adam (Kathy) Sleen, Jordan (Ashley) Sleen, Vanessa Sleen, Angela Cummins, Crystal Cummins, David Cummins, Cody (Sheree) Eilertson, Maggie Olson, Ivan Olson, Jessie Olson; great-grandchildren:Alexandra and Aiden Eilertson; sisters:Elaine Schwendemann, Dorothy Vollan, Gloria (Donald) Town, Violet Razink, Margie (Dan) Hoff, Bonnie Federation; brother, John (Carol) Cummins.He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.Blessed Be The Memory of Virgil Cummins
