Robert Swanson

Robert Swanson, age 84, a resident of rural Vergas, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at his home.Robert Charles Swanson was born November 28, 1924 near Erhard, Minnesota the son of Joseph and Ester Loraine (Carlson) Swanson.He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1943.Robert served in the United States Army during World War II.After returning home from World War II Robert attended and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a degree in electrical engineering.After graduation Robert worked for Santa Fe railroad in the rail-detection testing division.Robert and Francis Froyd were united in marriage on October 20, 1962.They moved to Chicago where he worked for the RRA railroad.In 1970 Robert and Francis moved to Fridley, Minnesota where he worked for Soo Line Railroad until his retirement in 1990.Robert was a member of Maintenance Away, Pelican Rapids V.F.W. Post #5252 and Fridley V.F.W.He enjoyed reading, gardening, and was known as being a handyman.Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Francis; brothers: Edward and Irwin.Robert is survived by his three sons: Kurt (Debra) Swanson, Kelso, WA, Karl Swanson, Fridley, MN and Keith (Natasha) Swanson, Champlin, MN; brother, Reuben (Viola) Swanson, Cincinnati, OH; sister, Rebecca Emerson, Beatrice, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Yvonne Swanson, Bloomington, MN; and many nieces and nephews.Blessed Be The Memory of Robert Swanson
