Roy Willard Evenson, age 88, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.Roy was born October 3, 1920, in Wilkin County, Minnesota, the son of Edward and Christine (Haugtvedt) Evenson.Roy was baptized and confirmed in Norwegian at West North Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids.Prior to the war, Roy worked as a milkman in Barnesville, Minnesota.During World War II, Roy was active in the Army Air Force from 1941-1946.On August 31, 1945, Roy was united in marriage to Janess Herting at North Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids.They lived in Spokane, Washington, and then Minneapolis, Minnesota, where they resided for 47 years while Roy was employed as a painter.Roy retired in 1983.After retiring, they moved back to Pelican Rapids.Roy entered Pelican Valley Nursing Home in 2008.Roy enjoyed gardening, woodworking and fishing with his grandchildren.He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the American Legion.Roy is survived by his wife, Janess; his children: Cynthia (Wayne) Josephson, Fowler, CO, Roger (Kay) Evenson, Pelican Rapids, MN, and Pamela (Tom) Bobst, Rocky River, OH; eleven grandchildren: Jarrett (Racquel) Leadens, Katrina (Kevin) Kolasa, Jamie (Jason) Bischoff, Renee (Thomas) White, Samantha Evenson, Sarah Josephson, Rachel (Tom) Knost, John Josephson, Matthew Bobst, Christine Bobst, Caroline Bobst; five great-grandchildren: Wyatt Leadens, Morgan Leadens, Rhett Leadens, Kole Kolasa and Kodi Kolasa; three brothers: Ernest Evenson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Garnet (Delores) Evenson, Lake Park, MN, Arvid Evenson, Pelican Rapids, MN; two sisters: Mildred Honrud, Moorhead, MN, Hazel Hutchinson, San Gabriel, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Christine; sisters, Inga Julsrud, Lenora Dalager, Miranda Lahlum and Vivian McArdell.In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Faith Lutheran Church Building Fund, Pelican Valley Nursing Home or memorial of choice.Blessed Be The Memory Of Roy Evenson
