REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF...Norma Jacobson, age 92, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home.Norma Emelia Martha Johnson was born May 26, 1918, the daughter of Henry M. and Alette (Dahle) Johnson.She was born at home in a log cabin just east of Zion Lutheran Church near Pelican Rapids.She was baptized on July 21, 1918, and later confirmed in 1933 at Zion Lutheran Church.They moved to the west side of Franklin Lake where she grew up.She attended country school in Dunn Township and later graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1937.Norma worked summers picking berries at Peterson Berry Farm and also worked at Dunvilla Resort several years after high school.On January 15, 1939, Norma married Francis W. Jacobson at the Gjerde parsonage.They lived in Lida Township east of Pelican Rapids and farmed together for the next forty-six years.Norma worked side by side with Francis, helping with cows and chickens besides gardening, canning, and packing eggs.She especially liked flowers, music, and was a very good cook.She also belonged to the Lida Homemakers group.Francis died suddenly at the farm on March 7, 1985.Norma moved into her home in Pelican Rapids at 630 East Mill Street in the fall of 1986.She lived there until January 23, 2007 when she moved into Riverfront Manor assisted living in Pelican Rapids.She was also a resident of the Pelican Valley Nursing Home periodically when she had to recuperate from medical stays at the hospital.Norma enjoyed having her family around and enjoyed cooking for them.This last May 26, Norma was able to celebrate her 92nd birthday with family and friends.She was especially glad that four of her classmates from 1937 were able to be there to help her celebrate.Norma belonged to Central Lutheran Church since 1939.She was active in WELCA for many years and was a past president.She was also active in quilting.Norma is survived by her son, Robert (Eileen) Jacobson, Ely, Iowa, and daughter, Loretta (Edward) Jenson, Pelican Rapids; three grandchildren, Tony (Kristine) Jacobson, Naperville, Illinois, Eric (Jennifer) Jenson, Minneapolis, and Andrea (Kenn) Packer, Barnesville, MN; four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Bryce Jacobson, Evan Packer, and Elinor Jenson; two sisters: Mildred Martinson, Edina, MN, and Lillian (John) Rankin, Brainerd, MN; brother, Herbert Johnson, Pelican Rapids; also seventeen nieces and nephews.Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Alette Johnson; husband, Francis.Blessed Be The Memory Of Norma Jacobson
