Marlene Schulz

April 16, 1936 — January 1, 2011

Marlene Schulz, age 74, a resident of Frazee, Minnesota, formerly of Pelican Rapids, died on Saturday, January 1, 2011, at Frazee Care Center in Frazee. She passed away shortly before 10:00 p.m. due to complications with her breathing.Marlene Francis Kingsley was born April 16, 1936, daughter of Fred and Millicent (Annis) Kingsley, in Sutton, North Dakota. Marlene attended high school in Fargo, North Dakota. After graduation Marlene went on to attend two years of schooling from Interstate Business College also in Fargo. Marlene was united in marriage to James Hanson in February 1956. On February 10, 1960, they had a son, Jason. Marlene and James divorced in 1962. She went to work for the Fargo Forum as an advertising agent; it was there she met her future husband. On May 8, 1965, she married George Schulz. On November 30, 1968, they had a daughter, Gayleen. Marlene lived much of her life in the Fargo-Moorhead area until 1994 when she moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. She remained in Detroit Lakes until 1999 then moved to Pelican Rapids. She lived in Pelican Rapids with her husband, George, from 1999 to 2007, until she moved into Good Samaritan Center in Pelican Rapids. She was loved by many staff and fellow residents at the Good Samaritan Center; they became a second family to her. She was on the Resident Council, and in later years became a voice for residents who could not speak for their own needs. Marlene was very fond of all animals; cats were her favorite. She loved to talk to the staff of Good Samaritan Center about her four-legged grandchildren. She leaves behind Hasher (half Egyptian Mau, half Bobcat), Little Garfield (Orange Tabby), Isis (Gray Tabby Munchkin), and of course, Peggy Sue (a little black Pug dog). Some the things Marlene loved to do was shopping, buying clothes, and eating out. She loved to go to Duanes House of Pizza in Fargo for a salami pizza. In her younger years Marlene enjoyed to work and keep a garden. She loved wildflowers and butterflies, anything that represented springtime, which was her favorite time of year.As for the accomplishments in Marlenes life she would say lasting though 45 years of marriage to George, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As for the disappointments in Marlenes life she would say not being able to have a better relationship with her son, Jason.Marlene leaves behind her husband of 45 years, George Schulz, Pelican Rapids, MN; son, Jason Hanson (Bernadette Pinotti, Mary Leedom, and Belinda Hanson) all from Fargo, ND; daughter, Gayleen Mohamed (Pierre Okstad, Bemidji, MN, Ismail Mohamed) Pelican Rapids, MN; 3 grandsons: Kyle Hanson, Collin Hanson, and Nakota Schulz-Okstad-Mohamed; 3 granddaughters: Amanda Marshal, Amber Leedom, and Vanessa Wahl; great-granddaughter, McKenna Leedom; and a great-grandson, Skyler Hanson.Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Millicent; one older brother, Arlo Bob Kingsley.Blessed Be The Memory Of Marlene SchulzFuneral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
