Maxine Lyon, age 82, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home under the care of Lakeland Hospice.Maxine Myrtle Carlson was born on October 15, 1928, in Bismarck, North Dakota the daughter of Sigurd and Mabel(Owens) Carlson. She was raised and graduated from high school in Washburn, North Dakota. Then Maxine attended North Dakota State University earning a teaching certificate. She taught at a one-room country school near Washburn. On June 5, 1949, Maxine was united in marriage with Charles "Bill" Lyon in Washburn. Maxine and Bill lived in Bismarck until 1962 when they moved to Pelican Rapids where they owned and operated Lyon Heating and Plumbing. They sold the business in 1972 and opened a Sears outlet which they owned and operated until 1983. Bill died on July 13, 1989. Maxine was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, church circle, and Pelican Rapids V.F.W. Auxiliary.She enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlework, ceramics, reupholstering furniture, canning and freezing, gardening, and working with creative crafts. Maxine is survived by her two daughters: Deborah (David) Paul, Baxter, MN, and Stephanie (Jerry) Larson, St. Cloud, MN; son, James (Lisa) Lyon, Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren: Ryan Paul, Michael (Angie) Paul, Stephanie (Jared) Gustafson, Jeff (Lara) Larson, Matt Larson, Missy (Chad) Redetzke, Tommy Larson, Michelle Lyon, and Laura Lyon; 5 great-grandchildren: Hunter Ohnstad, Annabelle Redetzke, Jack Larson, Jayda and Zoey Larson; sister-in-law, Carol Owens, Wayzata, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Lyon; parents; two brothers: Roy and Leo Carlson; two sisters, Norma Hanson and Marlene Dasenko.Funeral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
