Douglas Erickson, age 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, formerly of Pelican Rapids, died on Monday, October 3, 2011 at PioneerCare of Fergus Falls.Douglas "Doug" Erling Erickson was born February 16, 1927, in rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the son of Ernest and Beatrice (Stromstad) Erickson. After graduating in 1945 from Pelican Rapids High School, Doug spent 6 weeks at Fort Snelling before receiving a farm deferment. Doug and his dad farmed 1000 acres together. While always a farmer, Doug also had a long career in construction and cement masonry working in Fargo, Moorhead, the Iron Range, and eventually owning Doug Erickson Construction in Pelican Rapids. Some of his notable work included building the marina on Pelican Lake, near Pelican Rapids, and three additions to Pelican Rapids High School. In 1951, Doug was united in marriage to Marion Jacobson of rural Detroit Lakes. On May 5, 1962, he was united in marriage to Barbara Frazee of Pelican Rapids.Doug was a member of Cormorant Lutheran Church and Faith Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Barnesville, Rollag, Downer, and Cormorant Lake Sportsman Clubs. Doug received numerous awards including: the special service award in 1990-1991, the potato peeler award in 1993-1994, and outstanding senior citizen award in 1996-1997. He also belonged to the North American Hunting Club, Ducks Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid deer hunter his entire life. He shot bear in northern Minnesota and elk in Montana.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion; wife, Barbara; parents, Ernest and Beatrice; daughter, Cindy Lou, age 1 ; and infant great-granddaughter, Arionna.Doug is survived by his 5 daughters: Lynda Fattom, Portland, OR, Valerie Flodman, San Diego, CA, Bridget (John) Wedll and Darla (Ted) Wedll, both of Elizabeth, MN, and Enid (Tim) Ness, Fergus Falls, MN; a son, Sgt.
