Gladys Roberta Nelson

Gladys Roberta Maneval was born on September 11, l939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the daughter of Fay and Corinne (Robillard) Maneval. At the age of six they moved to her father's hometown of Vergas, MN. She attended school in Frazee, MN through her junior year. Gladys stayed with her sister and brother-in-law in Brooklyn Center, MN graduating from North High School in Minneapolis. She worked at miscellaneous jobs, waitressing, office work and a dude ranch. She began her career at JC Penney, Fergus Falls, in l971 retiring after 24 years. After retirement she enjoyed her time at Southtown in Pelican Rapids.On September 13, l958 Gladys married the love of her life Arlen P. Nelson at Central Lutheran Church Parsonage. They lived in the Pelican Rapids area until moving to Fergus Falls in l964. They lived at Fergus Falls for 35 years, moving to their Lake Lida home in l999.Gladys especially enjoyed the times with her family. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, embroidery, her flower gardens, reading and word puzzles. She enjoyed traveling west with her husband during his trucking years and then later with their camper. The place she enjoyed the most was "the lake".She was a long time member of Central Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids where she was active with the Ladies Aide and Circle.Gladys Nelson, age 72, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota died peacefully at her home Tuesday, December 6, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer under the care of Hospice.Gladys is survived by her husband, Arlen of 53 years; daughters: Jodeen Grant and Arlene Stadum, Fergus Falls, MN; sons: Monte Nelson and Michael Nelson, Fergus Falls, MN; their faithful dog, Buddy who never left her side throughout her illness; seven grandchildren: Danielle (Lonnie) Ballweg, Fergus Falls, MN, Sarah (Jyle) Meyhoff, Anacortes, WA, Marie Grant, Fergus Falls, MN, Roberta (Chris) Mavis, Fergus Falls, MN, Jarod Grant, Erhard, MN, Richard Stadum, Minot, ND, Tyler Hultin, Fargo, ND and six great-grandchildren; sister: Cheryl Nelson; special friend Al Ziegler; brothers: Gary (Pen) Maneval, Spokane, WA, Robin (Barb) Maneval, Vergas, MN; Steven (Dar) Maneval, Detroit Lakes, MN, David (Jani) Maneval, St. Cloud, MN; sisters-in-law, Jean Satter, Pelican Rapids and Carol Maneval, Bloomington; brother-in-law, Lamonte Dehn, Brooklyn Park; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Donnetta (Maneval) Dehn, Janice (Maneval) Arntson; brothers: Donald Maneval and William Maneval; brothers-in-law: Richard Nelson, Donald Arntson, Leslie Satter, and great-grandson: Joshua Ballweg.Funeral Home:Larson Funeral Home304 3rd Street S.E.Pelican Rapids, MNUS 56572
